Castle Hohenlinden

The legend of Castle Hohenlinden involves either the world’s best husband or the world’s most lavish, depending on your point of view. Back in 1922, G. Franz Prochaska promised his wife Selma, he would build her a castle. One year later the German architect Heinrich Otto Brehmer has realized Selma’s dream in Hamburg.

Today the luxurious residence welcomes visitors with a spacious Rococo style entry hall, four meters high beamed ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and the terrace providing panorama views of the 3000 square meters parkground, still showing the builder’s extraordinary taste.

Located in a purely residential area of Hamburg Poppenbüttel, near the banks of the Alster River and its own jetty, the property offers the perfect combination of rural idyll and urban comfort. Despite its tranquil location, Hamburg’s city center can be reached in 25 minutes by car, the international airport just in ten minutes.

A large spiral staircase leads to the upper floor via a gallery. The residence equipped with parquet floors and elegant stucco ceilings is creating an incomparable ambiance.

Though the renovations lovingly preserved its intricate late Baroque setting, the castle’s lifetime has spanned several ownership changes from the Weimarer Republic to Second World War -and the current owner found the residence and its surrounding outbuildings in need of an update that married their history and his contemporary lifestyle.

In 2008 the castle’s renovation has been completed to high-end technical standard, including modern interior and exquisite details for the 5 living rooms, featuring a dressing area, 2 contemporary-style bathrooms, with an open- plan living, dining and kitchen area. The new property can be used for private and/ or business purposes, fully equipped with a modern security system.

The aesthetic naturally extends to the furnishings and accessories, a mix of antique-store finds, Modern-design and Retro classics, which focus the elegance that matches the environment.

That contemporary chic is also highlighted by the artworks, the current owner explains, who purchased the main apartment in the castle for his family and transformed it into a personal paradise, like Franz and Selma almost 100 years ago.

The result is a marriage of Modern Design and breathtaking Baroque architecture, that will no doubt, stand the test of time for another 100 years.

TThe design concept and vision of a modern residence has been successfully executed down to the very last detail.
